Christmas is just around the corner, and so is summer – well I thought that until the last lot of rain we got. We have had a very wet spring in Hanmer Springs.  The grass is growing quicker than you can blink. Although we have had the odd warm day, it still seems that summer is a we way off yet.

Twilight

Twilight is held every Wednesday night.  Shotgun start at 5.30pm.  Please be at the club house before 5.15pm.

You must have your names into the office before 3pm each Wednesday for twilight. The cost is $5.00 for Members and $10.00 for non members.  There is a meal available for $10.00.

There is a list on the notice board in the club house for volunteers to help with the meal.

Local Rules

Gardens - The only Garden on this course is the Rose Garden adjacent to number one tee.  All other areas are to be treated as “Play the ball as it lies”.

Leaves – At this time of the year a ball can be lost in the leaves.  When this occurs the ball is, by agreement to be dropped and played in an agreed position without penalty. This applies whether in the rough or fairway, but feel free to use the fairways when playing golf on the Hanmer Springs Golf Course.

Centenary

What a great weekend was held by all who attended. From Friday nights “conversatione” until Sundays Unveiling of the official Plaque and then a BBQ lunch, the weekend went with out a hitch.

About eighty people attended Friday night with a lot of past and present members rubbing shoulders. The highlight of the night was a letter from the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews and a presentation was made to the club of the flag from the 18^th green from the final day of this year’s British Open held at Royal St. Georges, in Kent UK. The flag is signed by Padraig Harrington, a former winner of the Open.

The weather played its part with a great day in store for the 86 players who played an Ambrose competition on Saturday. Brian Pool started the proceedings with a “Shot Gun” start. This was one tournament where every one was a winner.

Saturday night saw 102 people sit down to a formal dinner at the Heritage. Guest speakers Mrs Beverley Pool, Mr. Rodney Ensor, Sir Richard Hadlee and Mr. Philip Leishman (Host of the HSBC Golf Show) enthralled the guests with their wit and humour.

Sunday morning saw a more formal start to the day with the unveiling of the commemorative plaque by our Patron and his wife, Mr. Brian and Mrs. Beverley Pool. The planting of a Japanese Maple By our eldest Life member Mr. Bob Buchanan, was followed by holes of golf and a barbeque lunch.

The golf show will be featuring the weekend on its show in the next few weeks.

Thank you very much to our Centenary committee who put this weekend together. It has been 2 years in the planning, and to come up with a great weekend is a credit to this committee.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mike Ballard for donating a painting of the “Gum Tree” beside No. 7 Green. This is truly a magnificent painting and we are very grateful to Mike for it.

With spring well and truly upon us, the days are longer, the daffodils are well and truly out, and daylight saving is just around the corner. If you have not been to the course for a while you will notice a few changes – noticeably our new entrance and the painting of the Club House. Both have been done in readiness for our Centennial in November.

Centenary

The planning for this major event is well under way.

We are now taking registrations for this weekend. You may post you registration form along with money to the Golf Club or go to our web site and follow the instructions provided there.

THE FINAL DATE FOR REGISTRATIONS IS FRIDAY OCTOBER 21^ST, 2011.

Please keep the weekend of the 4^th, 5^th and 6^th of November 2011 free for our Centenary celebrations. We would like to see as many members – old and new – attend this weekend. Non members are welcome to attend these celebrations.

The format is as follows:

Friday 4^th November – Informal Get Together at the Club House from 7pm-10pm

Saturday 5^th November – Game of Golf – Shotgun Start at 11am. Wearing of Period Costume optional.

Saturday Evening – Venue Heritage Hotel – Pre-dinner drinks 6pm – 7pm, Celebration Dinner 7pm.

Entertainment – Guest speaker and Invited members to speak.

The Club has instigated new ways to allow casual golfers to play more often at a discounted rate. We have introduced discounted Green Fee Vouchers. These can last from 1-6 months.

Further to this there is now also a 12 month 9 Hole Green Fee.

Concession Cards for 4 rounds of golf are also available.

For full details just give our girls in the office a call and they will discuss the best option for your needs.
