Wow team, we did it!

What an awesome bunch Hanmer Springs Golf Club are,.

Thank you so much for all your tremendous donations and support during my fundraising campaign for Sweet Louise Cancer support for women with  terminal breast cancer.

As many of you know I recently lost a very dear friend in April and I was doing the walk in honour of Colleen.   She would have been blown away with everyone's contributions.

I enjoyed the walking (even if the ankles and knee protested a bit) and hope to continue pounding the pavement with my trusty walking poles. Thanks to all who offered to walk with me and for those who came last Wednesday in pink.

So, the Over total raised for the Charity was $746,829 and my grand total raised at the end of the day was $6617.00 an absolutely massive amount that has seen us become the top of the table in the individual fundraising.   I couldn't have done it without you,  from the bottom of my heart,  Thank you so much.

Carolyn Williams

Tips for Winter Golf:

1. Stay Warm and Dry:

  • Layering: Dress in layers to trap warmth. Start with moisture-wicking base layers, followed by insulating mid-layers, and a waterproof outer layer.
  • Gloves: Wear warm, all-weather gloves or consider using gloves on both hands for extra warmth.
  • Headwear: A hat or beanie is essential for retaining body heat.
  • Waterproof Shoes: Choose waterproof golf shoes to stay dry and comfortable.

2. Warm Up Thoroughly:

  • Stretching:

Before you play, do some dynamic stretches to loosen your muscles.

  • Practice Swings:

Spend some time hitting balls at the range to warm up and feel comfortable.

3. Adjust Your Game:

  • Club Selection:

Consider using more lofted clubs on your tee shots to compensate for the colder temperatures and potentially softer fairways.

  • Ball Selection:

Switch to a lower-compression ball for a more consistent flight and better control.

  • Grip:

Adjust your grip to ensure you have a firm hold on the club.

4. Be Mindful of Course Conditions:

  • Walking: Walking can help keep you warm and improve blood circulation.
  • Course Rules: Be aware of any course rules regarding winter play, such as designated tee boxes or greens.
  • Fairways and Greens: Expect softer fairways and slower greens due to moisture. Practice your short game and approach shots accordingly.

5. Additional Tips:

  • Hydrate: Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout your round.
  • Practice Indoors: If the weather is too harsh to play, consider practicing indoors at a golf simulator or on the range.
  • Enjoy the Game: Don't let the cold weather take the fun out of playing. Embrace the challenges and enjoy the company of your fellow golfers.
