IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

THE AGM IS ON SATURDAY 19th SEPTEMBER

NOMINATIONS FOR THE 2026-7 COMMITTEE CLOSE AT 5PM ON SATURDAY 5th SEPTEMBER

 Hello Members.

This will probably be my last update as the AGM is looming on 19 September.

The committee held its last scheduled meeting for its current term last night. Unfortunately Greg, our treasurer, has been very ill. Hopefully you are on the road to recovery Greg.

A number of other Club members have been ill, injured or have had an operation recently. Best wishes to you all for a complete recovery.

The main items discussed last night were:

  1. Our refurbishment of the bar, the kitchen and the ladies’ changing room is almost completed, and will be under budget. Thanks again to everyone who helped with this work (especially Ken, Richie and David).
  2. All of the major tasks in our Annual Work Plan have been completed.
  3. Our Annual Accounts to 30 June 2026 are in final draft stage and are now being audited. Our Profit will be slightly ahead of last year (which, you may recall, was also a good result). The Accounts will be forwarded to you nearer to the AGM date.
  4. We made a decision to buy our blue carts when they come off lease later in the year, rather than re-lease them or buy new ones.
  5. Tree planting on the roadside of holes 17 and 18 will commence on Monday 17th August.
  6. Lots of other minor issues were dealt with and closed off.

Next year’s Committee

Another main focus of the meeting was sharing of intentions of the committee members regarding standing for re-election for next year.

I can advise that Sandra Best  (ladies’ club captain), Mike Gainsford (nen’s club captain) and Richard Campbell (who has been our expert on property msatters) will be putting their nominations forward for next year.

This gives the committee some, but not perfect, continuity going forwards.

For personal reasons (not health related) I will be retiring as President this year (I did promise to do a 2 year term, or until we found irrigation water).

Bev and I have signed up to move into a villa the Summerset Prebbleton retirement village next year.  Before then we have to “downsize” and sell our house. That decision has encouraged a number of family members and friends from overseas to visit us while we still have a “big” house. Our priority for the next year is to travel NZ with them and I could not do justice to the Club presidency at the same time.

Unfortunately Ken Williams, our Vice President, and an amazing worker for the club, will not be standing for President or for reappointment to the club committee. Ken has served 10 years on the Greymouth Golf Club committee and 2 years at our Club and has “done his time’. He will be happy to keep helping out on jobs around the course.

Steve Gill is also standing down after serving several terms on our committee, including the last 2 years on the match committee.

Greg Samson. who was our treasurer, had planned to re-stand until his recent illness. He has just indicated that he will not be submitting his nomination.

Boio Sarahu-Hothersal, who was our secretary, resigned back in March due to workload pressure after her appointment to the Community Board.  She will not be standing for the 2026-7 committee.

Summary of 2026-7 vacancies:

This is a request for anyone who would like the honour of serving the Club as President, or as Vice President, or as a committee member (3 vacancies), to please put your name forward. These are all fun, satisfying and rewarding roles.

Nomination papers are included with this newsletter.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the President’s role, working with such an enthusiastic and capable Committee for 2 years and with a great management team. We have worked very well together.

More about that at the AGM.

I will be happy to work closely with the incoming President for a few weeks to ensure a tidy handover.

I can assure you all that there is nothing “sinister” about so many of us retiring after 2 years together on the committee. We all have our own valid reasons.

There are no known important issues that we will leave the Club to deal with. The Club is in great shape.

FYI, David will be overseas on leave from Mon 10th August to Mon 7 September 2026. Have a great trip David.

Kind regards

Graham Heenan

(on behalf of the Committee)
