Club Day Results 26August 2023.

It was a beautiful day for golf and hopefully the start of some great spring weather.

On Saturday, the ladies played the Jessie Sutherland Memorial.  Congratulations to the winner, Bev Pool, with 38pts. 

Also played on Saturday for men was the Scotty Anderson Memorial, which was won by Howard Chellew with 36pts. Well done Howard.

Twos, Owen Evans, Colin Hight, Jeff Dalley, Louise Pearce, Steve Gill and Howard Chellew.

Nearest the Pin was won by Sandy Samson.

Ladies News  Aug23 

On 29th August Carolyn Williams, Maree Herlund, Marie Michael and Sandra Best represented 

Hanmer Springs in the Cowlishaw Cup and Pumphrey Cup tournament at Christchurch Golf Club. 

The format of the tournament was a foursomes stableford. 

A huge congratulations to Marie and Maree for winning the Pumphrey Cup for the 

best pair stableford with 39 stablefords. 

A busy October on the Course.

With spring comes the big group bookings. This is a huge source of income for the club, but it does cause some disruption to members.   

6,7,8th October   54Hole Tourament       course closed.

14th October        Club Day Multi Tee Start 8am / Course closed from Midday.for                                  100players

15th October        Front 9 closed / Disc golf competition. Back 9 open. . 

21st October        Fulton Hogan Golf Day / Course opened to members but                                           bookings essential, talk to Mike.

22nd October       Fulton Hogan / course closed until midday.

Greens Report from Jamie

As we head into spring, we are glad to see the back of winter and ready for some grass growth to kick in. On Monday, September 4, all greens will be verti-drained. A verti drain is a large solid tine that spikes 14" deep with a kick. This renovation practice will help relieve compaction and improve drainage. We are also going to be introducing gypsum to the greens, which will break up any clay in the profile and increase our calcium levels, which are currently low. We will then continue with our regular light topdressing practice during the growing season.

Our troublesome greens, 4, 5, and 6, are going to be oversown as soon as the soil temperature increases and the frosts disappear. These will be in play for the Men's 54-Hole in October, but as usual, we are governed by the weather, and there is only so much we can do. 

The weather has also had our hands tied with the swale on 6. As soon as we are able to get a digger on site, we will clean this out to finish the job. On the whole, I am pleased with how the course has held together during such a challenging wet winter.
